Withtheresearchanddevelopmentofhighperformancepolymermaterials,theproblemsofresources9environmentandenergymustbeconsideredinordertorealizesustainabledevelopmentofpolymerindustry.Therefore,itisadevelopmenttrendtoexploitanovelhighperformancebiodegradablepolymerfromrenewableresources.Anewblendingmethodhasbeenconcernedinrecentresearchanddevelopmentefforts,whichisemployedtogeneratesomedeformeddispersedphaseinsituduringbiodegradablepolymerblendingprocessingwithphysicalandchemicalmeansorexternalfieldchange.Itiswellprovedthatthedeformedmorphologyismoreeasilyrealizedinelongationalforcefieldinwhichthevelocitygradientisparallelwiththeconveyingdirection.Inordertoachievetheprocessbasedontheelongationalforcefield,QU[l‘2]designedapolymerprocessingequipmentdesignatedasvaneextruderinwhichthepolymerparticulatesareplasticizedandconveyedbynormalstress.Thevolumeelongationalforcefieldcanbegeneratedbyperiodicallychangingofthecavityvolumeinthevaneplasticatingandconveyingunits(VPCUs).ThroughthecontinuousmotionofthepolymermaterialsintheadjacentVPCUs,itcangenerateacontinuousvolumeelongationalforcefieldinthepolymerplasticatingandconveyingprocess.Inthisstudy,avaneextruderisemployedtopreparePoly(lacticacid)/Poly(butylenesuccinate)trulybiodegradablein-situreinforcedblendsunderdifferentprocessingparameters(temperatureandtimes)andthemorphologies,thermalpropertiesandmechanicalpropertiesofblendspreparedareanalyzed.MorphologicalobservationindicatedthatwithincreasingtheprocessingtimesthePLAparticlesizeofblendsbecamesmallerandtheshapeofthefracturesurfaceofPLAshowedovalshapeandlongstripundergoinglowtemperatureprocessing.TGAthermogramsshowedthattheorientedPLAdispersedwellinthematrixofPBSretardedtheflame.MechanicalstudiesrevealedthePLA/PBSblendsoflowtemperatureprocessingexhibitedoptimumelongationatbreakaswellastensilemodulus,tensilestrengthandimpactstrength,whichimpliesthatthein-situreinforcementofblendsisrealizedduringprocess.
