Silkwormandspidergraduallyconcentrateproteinsolutionsintheirsilkglandsandspinningductsforfiberspinning.Tomimicthisenrichmentprocessandfurtherprepareartificialanimalproteinfibersbyusingamicrospinningdevice,apolymerbasedmicrofluidicdevicewasdesignedandfabricatedusingphotolithographyprocess.Themicro-deviceinvolvesaflowofregeneratedsilkfibroin(RSF)aqueoussolutiononadonorsideandaflowofpolyethyleneglycol(PEG)aqueoussolutiononanacceptorside.Asaninterlayerbetweenthedonorandacceptorchannels,regeneratedcellulosemembranesuppliedpassagewaysforwatermolecules.Byusingthemicro-device,dynamicenrichmentofRSFaqueoussolutionwasachieved.ARSFsolutionof2.5wt%wasenrichedupto4.7wt%afterflowinginthedevice.ResultsshowedthattheenrichmentefficiencywasaffectedbytheflowratesoftheRSFsolutionandthePEGsolution,andtheinitialPEGconcentration.Lengthening,deepeningorwideningthemicrochannelsmightfurtherpromotetheenrichmentfactor.
