Ferromagneticmicrowiresandtheircompositesarehighlypromisingformicrowaveandmillimeter-waveapplicationscl].Inthesefrequencyranges,theconductivelossassociatedwiththeskineffectcanbemediatedbychoosingawireofpropergeometry.Whenitcomestothemicrowaveapplications,twoprincipaldirectionsshouldbeconsidered.Oneisthereconfigurabledevicesbasedonthemicrowires,e.g.,tunablemicrowirecomposites[2],wherebythemodulationofdielectricspectracanbecross-tunedbythemagneticfield.NotethatthismagneticfieldcouldbeeithersmallmagneticfieldrelyingonGMIeffectofmicrowiresorhighmagneticfieldrelyingontheferromagneticresonance(FMR)features.Forthecaseoflow-fieldtuning,itisnecessarytohaveproperskineffectcharacterizedbytheratioofskindepthtothewirediameter,whichshouldtakeanoptimizedvalueinordertomaximizethetunableeffect.Whileforthecaseofhigh-fieldtuning,theresistancecouldbehighorlow,whichwillyielddifferenttuningeffectsonthescatteringspectraC3].Melt-extractedmicrowiresusuallyhaveadiameterofabout40microns,yetwithfairlygoodtensilestrengthupt04GPa.Therelativelylargediametermakesitsuitableforthelow-fieldtunableoperations.WeexperimentallyshowthatthehighfieldeffectonthedispersionofeffectivepermittivityinamagneticpolymercompositeisdictatedbytheFMRfeaturesandmagnetocapcitativeeffect.Thescatteringcharacteristicsaredominatedbythereactanceofcompleximpedance.InthevicinityofFMRresonance,theskindepthreachesminimumandtheresistanceachievesmaximumandhencethepermittivity.Thisgenerallyleadstotheexpectationthatthemelt-extractedmicrowirescanoffertheparentpolymerbothexcellentmechanicalreinforcementeffectandbroad-rangemagneticfieldtunability.
