Poly(lacticacid)wasmodifiedviasilanemoisturecrosslinkingreactiontoimprovethethermalproperties.ThePLAcompoundingredientconsistedofgamma-aminopropyltriethoxysilane(APS)ascrosslinkingagent,polyolsandglycerolasplasticizers.Thestatisticalapproachnamelydesignofexperimentwasemployedtooptimizeandquantifytheamountofthemixingcompositionsandforfurtherexplorationtosucceed.The2kfactorialdesignwasconductedtoevaluatingthestatisticaleffectsofmaterialingredientsontherespondsproperties.Threeparameters,k=3,explicitlyassilane(A),polyesterpolyols(B)andglycerol(C)contentswereassigned.A11eightdesignedcompositionswerecompoundedbycloselyintermeshingco-rotatingtwinscrewextruderandthetestspecimenswerepreparedbyinjectionmolding.Thesaunacuredspecimenswereachievedbyincubatingat600Cfor12hrsinmoisturesaturatedoveninordertoacceleratethesilane/moisturecrosslinkingreaction.Themorphologywasvisualizedbyscanningelectronmicroscope(SEM).Heatdistortiontemperature(HDT),impactsandtensilepropertieswerealsoinvestigatedandusedasdesignrespondsfortheanalysis.Withoutsuanatreatment,mostpropertiesofPLAcompoundweredecreasedwithsilanecontent.ThepropertiesofthePLAcompoundwereimprovedbyintroductionofcrosslinkstructureviathesilane/moisturecrosslinkreaction.StatisticalanalysisapproachusingANOVAtestingshowedthatsilanehadnegativeeffectonthethermalandimpactproperties.Theregressedmodels,obtainedfromthestatisticalprocesses,asthefunctionofdesiredrespondsagainstthesignificantparameterswereconstructed.
