AseriesofhighmolecularweightPIprecursors,poly(p-phenylenebiphenyltetracarboxamideacid),weresynthesizedfrom3,4,3’,4’-biphenyltetracarboxylicdianhydride(BPDA)andP-Phenylenediamine（PDA）byusingmechanicallydrasticstirringat–15to0oCfor48to72h.Theas-synthesizedPIprecursorsolutionwasusedtomakeBPDA/PDAPIthinfilmsandelectrospunnanofibers.IR,Ubbelhodeviscosimeter,CMT-8102ElectromechanicalUniversalTestingMachineandscanningelectronmicroscope(SEM)wereusedforthecharacterizationsoftheas-synthesizedPIprecursor,PIfilmsandnanofibersheets.ThehighmolecularweightBPDA/PDAPIthinfilmsandelectrospunnanofibersheetspossessexcellentmechanicalpropertiesofupto900MPatensilestrengthwithupto18.0GPaE-modulusandupto210MPatensilestrengthwithupto2.5GPaE-modulus,respectively.
