Inthisstudy,host-guestinteractionisusedasthedrivingforcetofabricatetwooppositechargedAzobenzene(Azo)/a-CD-rhodamineB(a-CD-RhB)inclusioncomplexes.TheelectrostaticinteractionandhydrogenbondingbetweenthetwoAzopolyelectrolytesareusedtobuildLBLmultilayers,andtheloadingandreleaseprocessesdrivenbythephoto-switchablehost-guestinteractionhavebeenprovedbyUV-visibleabsorptionspectroscopy.Thetrans-cisphotoisomerizationisthebasisofphotoresponsivesystemsformanyAzofunctionalmaterials,anditisalsoappliedtoconstructphoto-switchinthiscase.TwoopticallyactiveAzopolyelectrolytesaredesigned,includingPoly{2-[4-(4‘-ethoxyphenylazo)phenoxy]hexylacrylate-co-acrylamide}(P(EAPHA-co-AAm》andPoly{2-[4-(4‘-ethoxyphenylazo)phenoxy]hexylacrylate-co-acrylicacid}(P(EAPHA-co-AA》,anda-CDmodifiedthodamineB(a-CD-RhB),andarechosenasfluorescenceindicatortoformtwooppositechargedAzo/a-CD-RhBinclusioncomplexes.ByalternatelydippingasubstrateintoaqueoussolutionsofP(EAPHA-co-AA)/a-CD-RhBandP(EAPHA-co-AAm)/a-CD-RhB,thedye-loadedLBLmultilayerscouldbeobtained.Generally,theapparentchangeofAzocompoundduringitstranscisphotoisomerizationisthelongitudinalandaxialmolecularsize.Duetospacematching,a-CDisveryeasytoidentifyandincludestransAzocompoundcl‘2].After20minutesofUVlightirradiation,accompanyingtheisomerizationofazobenzenechromophoresfromtranstocis,theabsorptionbandataround566nmcorrespondingtoa-CD-RhBalmostdisappears.Theresultsrevealtherapidreleaseofloadeda-CD-RhBmodeldrugfromthemultilayers.Possessingthegoodcontrolofboththefilmthicknessandinnerstructure,thisuniquefabricationmethodcouldbepromisingincontrollingthedrugloadingamountandreleaserate.
