Naturalfiberreinforcedcompositesareexpectedtobecomeapopularchoiceoversyntheticandtraditionalmaterialwhenlightweight,greenandenergyconservationareconcernedcl,2]Inthisstudy,pultrudedkenaffiberreinforcedcomposites(PKFRC‘s)containing70%kenaffiberbyweightwasproduced.ThreedifferenttexesofkenafyarnfiberwereusedtomanufacturePKFRC,s.Inaddition,surfacingveil(SV)wasintroducedtotheouterlayerofeachPKFRC.Theeffectofdifferenttexesandsurfacingveilwassimultaneouslystudied.Eachcompositewassubjectedtonaturalweatheringexposefor200daysandalsohygrothermalagingfor1000hoursindistilledwater,seawaterandacidicsolutionattemperatureof650C.Theresultsshowedthatdifferenttexnumbersusedgivedifferentmechanicalpropertiesofcompositessamples.Fornaturalweatheringexposurestudy,PKFRCwithtexnumber1400specimenabsorbedtheleastmoisturefollowedbytexnumber2200andthehighestwastexnumber3300.PKFRCwithSVshowedlowermoistureuptakethanPKFRCwithoutSVinallthegivenenvironments.Similarbehaviorwasobservedforhygrothermalagingstudy.Smallertexnumberofkenafyarngivebetterwaterabsorptionandmechanicalpropertiesascomparedtobiggertexnumberofkenafyarn.Theflexuralandcompressiontestshoweddecreasinginmechanicalpropertiesafterprolongedexposures.PKFRCspecimenwithSVwasobservedtohavehighermechanicalpropertiesthanPKFRCwithoutSV.Theinvasionofmoisturefromhumidenwronmentswassuspectedtobethemajorfactorthathadledtode-bondingandhadweakenedthefiber-matrixinterfacesofthecomposite,hencereducingtheoverallperformanceofPKFRC.
