Anewunsymmetricalphotochromicdiarylethene,1-(5-formyl-3-thienyl),2-(2-methyl-5-(4-methylphenyl)-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene(FMTP),wassynthesizedanditsstructurewasdetermined.Itsopticalproperties,includingphotochromicreactivityinsolution,wereinvestigated.Thediaryletheneunderwentreversiblephotochromism,changingfromcolorlesstoblueafterirradiationwithUVlightorvisiblelight.
