Ahierarchicallystructuredthermal-reducedgraphene(ReG)foamwith0.5S/cmelectricalconductivityisfabricatedfromawell-dispersedgrapheneoxidesuspensionviaadirectionalfreezingmethodfollowedbyhigh-temperaturethermaltreatment.Theas-preparedthree-dimensionalReGfoamhasanorderedmacroporoushoneycomb-likestructurewithstraightandparallelvoidsintherangeof30ymt075ymseparatedbycellwallsseveraltensofnanometersthick.Despiteitsultra-lowdensity,theReGfoamhasanexcellentcompressionrecoveryalongitsin-planedirection.ThispropertyoftheReGfoamcanbeattributedtoitshierarchicallyporousstructures,asdemonstratedbythecompressiontest.TheexcellentcompressionrecoveryandhighconductivityprovidetheReGfoamwithexceptionalpiezoresistivecapabilities.TheelectricalresistanceoftheReGfoamshowsalineardecreasingtrendwithcompressivestrainincrementsofupt060%,whichcannotbeobservedinconventionalrigidmaterial-basedsensorsandcarbonnanotube-basedpolymersensors.Suchintriguinglinearstrain-responsivebehavior,alongwiththefastresponsetimeandhighthermalstability,makestheReGfoamapromisingcandidateforstrainsensing.Wedemonstratedthatitcouldbeusedasawearabledeviceforreal-timemonitoringofhumanhealth.
