Theaimofthisresearchwastoreducethebrittleandincreasethetoughnessofpolylacticacid(PLA)byaddingepoxidizednaturalrubber(ENR)01].ENRwithepoxidationcontentof33mol%wasmixedinchloroformsolventatroomtemperatureforpreparationoffilm.Thefilmwasformedbycastingafilmsheet.MechanicaltestsshowedthattheintroductionofENRreducedthetensilestrengthbutenhancedtheelongationofPLA.ThetensilestrengthandelongationatbreakofthePLA/ENRratioofPLA(15wt%stocksolution)/ENR(3wt%stocksolution)(80/20)were12.52N/rrirr12and224%,respectively.Therefore,theadditionofrutileTi02tothemaximumamountofl.75wt%showedthetensilestrengthandelongationatbreakof7.38N/mm2and104%,respectively.TheDSCresultsshowedthatthePLA/ENRblendsandPLA/ENRblendmodifiedRutileTi02werepartiallycompatiblewith2meltingtemperatures(Tm)whichtendedtodecrease.TheTGAthermogramsindicatedthattheadditionofENRtoPLAincreasedthefinaldecompositiontemperature(Tf).TheadditionoftheTi02intothePLA/ENR(80/20)at2.0wt%showedthehighestthermalstabilityoverthePLApureC2].ThemorphologystudiedbyscanningelectronmicroscopyrevealedthedispersionofENRphaseinthePLAmatrix.Finally,fromtheexperimentaldata,itcanbeconcludedthattheENRandTi02canbeusedtoimprovethethermalstabilityandtoughnesspropertiesofthePLAfilms.
