Inthiswork,weinvestigatedthestructureandmorphologyformationindouble-crystallinediblockcopolymerofpoly(L-lactide)-block-poly(ethyleneglycol)(PLLA-b-PEG)ondifferentlengthscaleswithopticalmicroscopy(OM),atomicforcemicroscopy(AFM),synchrotrontime-resolvedsmallanglex-rayscattering(TR-SAXS)andwideanglex-rayscattering(WAXS)methods.ThePLLA-b-PEGcopolymerwith5000ofnumber-averageofmolecularweightofPLLAandPEGblockswasusedinthiswork.ThestructureandmorphologyofPLLA-b-PEGcopolymerswereformattedbytwo-stepcrystallizationprocess,i.e.,thePLLAblockcrystallizedfullyat110°Cinthefirststep,andthenthePEGblockcrystallizedfullyat30°Cinthesecondstep.TheOM,AFMandSAXSresultsindicatedthatthePEGblockcrystallizedinthemulti-lengthscalesamorphousregionsconfinedbyPLLAcrystals.ThePEGblockcrystallizednotonlyintheinterlamellarregionsofPLLAcrystals,butalsointheinterfibrillarregionsofPLLA.However,thesubsequentcrystallizationofPEGblockdidnotaltertheforegoingspheruliticmorphologyofPLLAonthemicrometerscale.AndthisconfinedcrystallizationbehaviorofPLLA-b-PEGcopolymerwasillustratedinFigure1.
