AnN-halamineisacompoundcontainingoneormorenitrogen-halogencovalentbonds(N—X,generallyXisChlorine),thefunctionalmaterialswhichcontainedN-halaminestructuredemonstratedahighlybiocidalactivitiesagainsttothemostpathogenicbacteria,fungi,andsomespeciesofviruses.Inpresentwork,anovelantimicrobialfibrousmaterialbasedonN-halaminewassuccessfullypreparedbygrafting2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperdylmethacrylateontocottonfabricsandsequentiallychlorinatingthegraftedmaterialswithdilutedsodiumhypochloritesolutions.TheantibacterialtestresultsshowedthehinderedamineN-halaminefibrousmaterialprovidedatotalkillof106-107cfu/mLofE.coli(ATCC15597),S.epidermidis(ATCC35984),andS.aureus(ATCC6538)within30min.Thedurableandrechargeableantimicrobialfunctionwithhighthermo-stabilitywouldmakethenewfibrousmaterialsattractivecandidatesforabroadrangeofapplications. |
