Inthemanufacturingoflonghollowplasticpartswithclosedends,liketesttubes,unevenlyadvancingmeltfrontaroundthecoresresultsincoredeflection,whichbecomesapervasiveproblemespeciallywhenthepartsarethin-walled.Therefore,injectionmoldingthin-walledpartswithsuchcoresischallengingsincethisdeflectionnotonlycausesunevenwallthickness,butalsoitselfacceleratesmeltflowbehindthedeflection.Inthisstudy,aneffective3Dnumericalapproachisdevelopedtoprovideaconvenienttoolforpractitionerstopredictcoredeflection,andasingledimensionlessgroupcalledcoredeflectabilityisintroducedinthefollowingdiscussion.Tovalidateoursimulation,wecompareourcoredeflectionpredictionswitharecentanalyticalsolution(GiacominandHade,2005).
