Aninnovativemixedshellpolymericmicelles(MSPM)canbeconstructedthroughself-assemblyofabinarymixtureofamphiphilicdiblockcopolymers:poly(lactide)100-b-poly(ethyleneoxide)45(PLA100-b-PEG45)andpoly(lactide)125-b-poly(N-isopropylacryamide)180(PLA125-b-PNIPAM180)inaqueoussolution.TheresultingmicellehasabiocompatiblePLAcoreandashellconsistingofhomogeneouslymixedPEGandPNIAPMchains.Throughadjustingthetemperature(aboveorbelowthelowercriticalsolutiontemperatureofPNIPAM),MSPMcanreversiblytransformbetweencore-shellstructureandcore-shell-coronastructure,whichwascoveredwithacollapsedPNIPAMshellandstabilizedbyflexiblePEGchains.
