Thereisconsiderablecurrentinterestinpolymercontainingions,particularlyintheenergyarena.Apromisingsystemforrechargeablebatteryapplicationsconsistsoflithium(Li+)saltdissolvedindiblockcopolymersofpolyethyleneoxide(PEO)andpolystyrene(PS),astheycombinetheionicmobilityoftheLi+ionswiththemechanicalstabilityofthediblockcopolymermicrostructure.Theoreticallyunderstandingthebehaviorofthissystemprovidesimportantinsightforguidingtheoptimaldesignofthematerial(forexamplethroughtheselectionoftheaniontypes,andmolecularweightofthetwoblocks).
