Theobjectiveofpresentstudyistoinvestigatefrequencyfeaturesofacousticemission(AE)signalsgeneratedbydifferentdamagemechanismsinPE/PEselfreinforcedlaminates.TwokindsofspecimenpureresinandPE/PEunidirectionallaminatewerepreparedtoobtaindesireddamagemodes.AEsignalsofmatrixdamage,interfacedebondingandfiberbreakagecanbeactivatedbyquasi-statetensionofLDPEresin,[90]laminateand[0]laminaterespectively.FastFouriertransform(FFT)whichcanchangeAEwaveformsfromtimedomaintofrequencydomainwasusedtoobtainfrequencyinformationofdamagemodes.Accordingtofrequencyspectralanalysis,differenceoffrequencybetweendamagemechanismsisobvious.Frequencydistributionofmatrixdeformationandmatrixfracturearebelow100kHzwithpeakfrequencyat40kHz.Frequencydistributionofmatrixcrackingisabout100-300kHzwithpeakfrequencyat230kHz.Frequencyofinterfacedebondinghastwomainregions50-150kHzand200-300kHzwithpeakfrequencyat100kHz.Frequencyoffiberbreakagemainlydistributeduring200-300kHzwithpeakfrequencyat220kHz.TheresultrevealedfrequencyfeaturecouldbeappliedtoidentifydamagemechanisminPE/PEcomposites.
