STRONGSVILLE, Ohio, Jan. 15, 2010 – New SX1071 and Nexa Autocolor P565-9880 Etch Primers from PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) automotive refinish business have received approval from Chrysler Group, LLC, for warranty repairs on its vehicles.
SX1071 is a low-volatile organic compound, two-component acid etch primer designed to provide excellent adhesion and corrosion resistance to properly prepared steel and aluminum surfaces while offering fast dry characteristics. It is part of the OneChoice coatings product line by PPG. P565-9880 has comparable properties and is compatible with Nexa Autocolor coatings products.
Approval was granted following a series of wide-ranging and thorough tests and evaluations to ensure SX1071 and P565-9880 met Chrysler’s rigorous quality standards. With the approval, SX1071 and P565-9880 become part of an extensive list of other Chrysler-approved PPG coatings from the Global Refinish System, Deltron and Nexa Autocolor coatings lines.
“Meeting the high quality and durability benchmarks Chrysler demands is challenging,” said Kevin Loop, PPG OEM business development manager. “We appreciate their recognition of our products’ capabilities and are proud to live up to Chrysler’s expectations. SX1071 and P565-9880 will help collision repair and refinish centers deliver vehicle finishes equal in appearance to the OEM finish.”
SX1071 and P565-9880 are both 5.5 pounds-per-gallon VOC products that are compliant with the low-VOC auto refinish regulations in California and those that will go into effect in Canada in 2010. Both products also feature a fast-dry formula, are chromate-free and secure adhesion to most metal substrates.
