A composite micro-/nanostrucutred (MN) surface is designed by using
Polyvinylidenedifluoride (PVDF) polymer combining ZnO materials via heat pattern
transfer and crystal growth techniques. The surface composed of ZnO nanohairs over
PVDF micro-ratchets (i.e., ZP-MN) displays excellent anti-fogging and icing delay
properties. The water condensed droplets can be shed off easily from ZP-MN surface
at -5oC for ~ 1600 s via a slight wind or tilted action. The droplet wouldn''''t be
completely frozen on ZP-MN surface at -10oC until ~ 7360 s. The investigation
offers a way to design a structured surface with anti-icing ability, which is significant
to be extended to some realms such as micro-devices, engineering system, engine that
are worked in cold or humid environment.
