Fluorescent or not? Size-dependent fluorescence switching for polymer-stabilized gold clusters in the 1.1-1.7 nm size range
The synthesis of fluorescent H2O-sol. Au nanoparticles by the redn. of a Au salt in the presence of a designed polymer ligand is described, the size and fluorescence of the particles being controlled by the polymer to Au ratio; the most fluorescent nanomaterial has a 3% quantum yield, a 1.1 nm Au core and a 6.9 nm hydrodynamic radius.

Phase behavior and dewetting for polymer blend films studied by In Situ AFM and XPS: From thin to ultrathin Films.
In this work, the film thickness (l0) effect on the phase and dewetting behaviors of the blend film of poly(methyl methacrylate)/poly(styrene-ran-acrylonitrile) (PMMA/SAN) has been studied by in situ atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The thinner film shows the more compatibility of the blend, and the phase separation of the film occurs at l0 > 5Rg (radius...

Honeycomb-Patterned Hybrid Films and Their Template Applications via A Tunable Amphiphilic Block Polymer/Inorganic Precursor System
we have developed a facile and versatile method to prepare highly ordered inorganic patterns on solid substrates by pyrolyzing cross-linked polymer/functional precursor hybrid films. UV cross-linking effectively improves
the thermal stability of polymer matrix, which plays an important role in the structure-directing action. The inorganic micro-patterns are functionalized to create
CNT and ZnO n...

Grazing incident small angle x-ray scattering study of polymer thin films with embedded ordered nanometer cells
Analysis of nanostructures is of increasing importance with advances of nanotechnology. Embedded nanostructures in thin films in particular are of recent interest. Grazing incident small angle x-rayscattering GISAXS has been recognized to be a powerful method to probe such embedded nanostructures; however, quantitative analysis of scattering pattern is not always trivial due to complex refraction ...

ABA Type Triblock Copolymer Based on Mesogen-Jacketed Liquid Crystalline Polymer: Design,Synthesis, and Potential as Thermoplastic Elastomer
We have designed and successfully prepared a well-defined ABA type triblock copolymer consisting of poly(n-butyl acrylate) as soft B block and poly{2,5-bis[(4-methoxyphenyl)oxycarbonyl]styrene} (PMPCS) as hard A block with potential as liquid crystalline thermoplastic elastomer (LCTPE). The synthetic strategy is to obtain a difunctional poly(n-butyl acrylate) first and then use it as a macroinitia...

Photoinduced Holographic Phase Gratings Buried in Azobenzene Side-Chain Polymer Films with A Chiral Group
An optically active polymer(PM1) containg zaobenzene moieties with a chiral group (s-2-methyl-butyl) was synthesized by homopolymerization of monomer,4-[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyloxy]-4`-(s-2-methyl-1-butyloxycarbonyl) azobenzene, using the free radical polmerization method. The polymer dissolved in tetrahydrofuran(THF) could be easily proessed into high optical quality films. The optical anisotropy ...

Nano-Structural Evolution Induced Degradation of Polylactide/Clay Nanocomposites during Isothermal Cold Crystallization. Polymer International, 2009, 58(3), 430-436.
Polymer International, 2009, 58(3), 430-436.
ABSTRACT:
BACKGROUND: The aim of the work presented was to study the nano-structural evolution of the clay tactoids during the isothermal cold crystallization of the polylactide/clay nanocomposites (PLACNs). An interesting degradation behavior of the matrix PLA, however, was observed simultaneously with nano-structural evolution. Thus the possib...

Viscoelasticity and Thermal Stability of Polylactide Composites with Various Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes. Polymer Degradation & Stability, 2008, 93, 1577-1584.
Polymer Degradation & Stability, 2008, 93, 1577-1584.
ABSTRACT:
Polylactide (PLA) nanocomposites containing various functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared directly by melt compounding. The linear rheology and thermal stability of the PLA nanocomposites were respectively investigated by the parallel plate rheometer and TGA, aiming at examining the effect of surfa...

Effect of Epoxy on the Mechanical Properties and Melt Viscoelastic Behavior of PBT-Clay Nanocomposites. Polymers & Polymer Composites, 2005, 13(6), 571-580.
Polymers & Polymer Composites, 2005, 13(6), 571-580.
ABSTRACT: Poly(butylene terephthalate)/epoxy/montmorillonite ternary nanocomposites (PCNs) were prepared by melt intercalation. Their morphologies were investigated using XRD and TEM. The results reveal that with epoxy resin as a compatibilizer, the clay is easily intercalated and disperses well in the matrix. Therefore, the PCNs exhibited ...

Linear Rheological Behavior and Thermal Stability of PBT/Epoxy/Clay Ternary Nanocomposites, Polymer Degradation & Stability, 2005, 87, 511-519.
Polymer Degradation & Stability
ABSTRACT: Epoxy resin was used as a compatilizer to prepare poly(butylene terephthalate)/clay nanocomposites (PCN) via melt intercalation. The morphology of PCN hybrids was investigated using XRD and TEM. The results reveal that with the addition of epoxy, the silicate are easy to be intercalated and presents a nice dispersion in the matrix. The linear viscoela...
