【组织简介】
Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe (APME) is the voice of the plastics manufacturing industry, representing over 90 per cent of Western Europe’s polymer production capacity - with a turnover of more than 29 billion euro. The industry invests in research and development programmes amounting to at least 700 million euro and employs over 70 000 people. Combined with the European polymer converting industry and the machinery manufacturers, the plastics industry represents a major contributor to Europe’s economic strength employing well over one million people, generating sales in excess of 135 billion euro and representing an important sector of the European chemical industry, Europe’s second largest industry.

The Industry Voice
APME represents the industry at European level and promotes the benefits of plastics in every aspect of life. It co-operates with other industry sectors to provide effective solutions to plastics - related issues through scientific fact and environmental and economic data.

Aims and Objectives
On behalf of over 40 member companies, APME generates information on the polymer industry and promotes plastics positive contribution to society, both today and in the future. To achieve this, the Association aims to:
Provide effective industry solutions for plastics - related issues
Represent the interests of the industry in general
Define and communicate industrys views on issues related to plastics production, use and waste treatment
Generate and promote factual information to ensure that a balanced view of plastics is presented to European institutions, media, consumers and pressure groups
Safeguard free trade for its products.

Key Areas of Activity
APME addresses industrial issues as well as health, safety and environmental aspects of polymers throughout their life cycle via its legislative, environmental, technical and communications programmes. Its areas of responsibility cover:
Legislation - monitoring issues, representing the plastics industrys views and providing information and data to European institutions
Technical and Environmental - generating information on environmental aspects and industry developments. The Technical and Environmental Centre (TEC) of APME commissions and publishes independent, peer reviewed studies and reports on practical demonstrations made with other stakeholders to assess and optimise the environmental impact of plastic products in the manufacturing, use and recovery phases of their lifetime.
TEC also quantifies the positive contribution plastics are making to the goals of sustainable development and publishes annual data on the consumption and recovery of plastics used in the main application sector of packaging, building and construction, automotive and electric and electronic.
Communications - ensuring information exchange, developing education programmes and promoting open dialogue with all parties. The department implements consumer projects (including a student design competition and joint projects with the European space industry) focusing on the benefits of plastics in all applications areas and runs regular effectiveness surveys. The department also manages all communications vehicles, including this Web site and all media relations.
Product / Material Support - dedicated committees covering individual plastics materials and dealing with specific product issues.
