Useful information, seasonal action steps and resources
PITTSBURGH, Jan. 19, 2010 – The
Accu-Tab system commercial pool water treatment group of PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) has announced the release of “Maintenance & Training Best Practices: Smooth Operator,” the second in a series of informational advisories.
“Smooth Operator” details findings from a recent survey of commercial swimming pool owners and operators in the United States that suggest staff and personnel responsible for maintaining and operating pools may lack adequate water quality equipment training. Data from the survey indicates that 20 percent of pool owners and operators questioned had to shut down their facilities due to a concern over water quality. Of these owners and operators, 76 percent cited the equipment they use to regulate water quality as being difficult to operate.
“If the equipment that regulates water quality is operated inconsistently, operators may be unknowingly putting their patrons at risk for recreational water illnesses,” said Rick Ferguson, PPG commercial development manager for
Accu-Tab chlorination systems. “However, if pool owners and operators take a year-round approach to maintenance and training at their facilities, they will likely decrease incidences of having poor water quality and avoid shutdowns.”
The advisory provides seasonal action steps that can be implemented to make pool maintenance and operator training an ongoing process. Included in the action steps are recommendations for staff-certification programs.
