In this article, a bio-degradable composite made from jute fiber and polylactic acid (PLA) was prepared by melt blending method. The effects of fiber contents and silane coupling agent KH-550 plus alkali surface treatments on the properties of the composites were studied by mechanical properties tests, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The results showed that with the increase of jute fiber content, the tensile strength of the composite firstly increased and then decreased, reaching the maximum at the fiber content of 15wt%. When the content of the fiber was 20wt%, the composites can get the best tensile modulus, flexural strength and modulus. The storage modulus of the PLA/jute fiber composites increased with respect to the pure PLA. The mechanical properties of surface treated jute fiber reinforced PLA composite were improved owing to the enhanced interfacial adhesion than those of untreated fiber reinforced PLA/jute composites. |
