The environmental friendly waterborne polyurethane (WPU) has been widely used in many fields because of its excellent chemical adhesion. In this study, WPU emulsion was prepared by condensation reaction from raw materials to form pre-polymer and followed by neutralizing and emulsifying. Then the WPU emulsion was blocked with silane coupling agent. The chemical structure, thermal stability and particle size of resultant PU were tested by fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, thermogravimetry (TG) analysis and laser particle analyzer. The adhesive propertiy was characterized by the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) between PU matrix and UHMWPE fiber. Some particular characteristic absorption peaks in FTIR spectrum proved silicone had been successfully introduced in PU molecular chain and formed Si-O-Si structure. TG analysis showed that the heat resistance of resultant PU was significantly improved after silane modification. The average particle size of silane modified PU became larger and the size distribution became wider with increasing of the silane content. The IFSS between modified PU and UHMWPE fiber increased with increasing of silane content. When the silane content was 2%, the general performance of modified PU would be more balanced and 50% increasement in the adhesive property was got. |
