Waterborne polyurethanes (WPU) were prepared using toluene diisocyanate, polypropylene glycol, ethylene glycol and dimethylolpropionic acid, and siloxane modified WPU (PSU) latexes were obtained through reaction of PU prepolymers with either bis(3-(1-methoxy-2-hydroxypropoxy)propyl) terminated polysiloxanes (PMTS) or dihydroxypropyl terminated polysiloxanes (PDS) of different molecular weight. Results showed that, with increases in molecular weight of the siloxanes used, phase separation of the incorporated PMTS or PDS in PSU films increased. In general, PMTS or PDS modified polyurethane films showed higher performance than those prepared from the corresponding unmodified polyurethane latexes. |
