We tried radical polymerization of cyclic ketene acetal in order to synthesize a novel polyhydroxyalkanoate. 2-Methylene-1,3,6-trioxocane (MTC) was synthesized and polymerized via ring-opening in the presence of radical initiator to produce poly(ester-ether) (PMTC) as a novel polyhydroxyalkanoate as shown in Figure 1. The obtained PMTC was found to be biodegradable as measured by total organic carbon (TOC) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD).
