As a kind of biopolyester, Poly (hydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV), which is produced by bacteria can be biodegraded by bacteria and completely decomposed into carbon dioxide, water and biomass in soil or under composting condition. PHBV is also a kind of material with high biological compatibility and is a great barrier to water, gas and aroma. So there are possibilities of a wide range of applications with PHBV such as medical materials (suture, bone-nail), film products (mulch films, shopping bags, compost bags), disposable items (pens, tableware), packaging materials (especially for food packaging), and so on.

one to accomplish the industrialization of totally biodegradable material via

PHBV is made from corn, a kind of annually renewable resources. It is one of the world recognized not only bio-based but also biodegradable materials. The application of PHBV will help reduce the dependency on mineral resources, prevent white pollution and make a contribution to sustainable development of the social economy.

Tianan Biologic Material Co., Ltd. is a high-tech enterprise which is the first fermentation technology in China. The annual output of PHBV of our plant is 1,000 tons. Furthermore, our company has been devoted to the processing techniques of PHBV. By now, the injection molding technique has been fully developed and the products thus made have gone into mass production. These products include bio golf tees and disposable utensils which can be heated in a microwave oven. Also, blowing molding, sheet extruding and coating techniques are well developed in our company and we are engaged in improving the mass production processes. Other techniques such as film forming are under investigation.
