The emulsion copolymerization composing of butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, hydroxylethyl methacrylate and acrylic acid using reactive emulsifier R208 and AOPS-1 was studied at different emulsifier type, level of emulsifier and initiator, reactive temperature with regard to monomer conversion. The particle size and distribution of the emulsion were also investigated. It indicated that reactive emulsifier decreased the polymerization rate. The polymerization rate increased with the increase of reaction temperature, level of initiator, and amount of emulsifier. The particle size also increased with the increase of reaction temperature and level of initiator. Small amount of reactive emulsifier increased the particle size.
