The present inves tigation is focus on the preparation proces s of s ilica-based ceramic mold us ing s ilica sol as binder. Results show that taking NH4Cl solution as catalys t and us ing vacuum drying process to fabricate s ilica based ceramic mold not only avoid the complex hydrolyse proces s of ethyl s ilicate used in conventional ceramic mold, but also gain the ceramic mold with relative good surface quantity and reduce the cos t. Meantime, gel hardening of s ilica sol s lurry may complete in 1 h. From these results it is concluded that s ilica sol can be used to prepare ceramic mold as binder.
