This manuscript describes a series of mesogen-jacketed liquid crystalline polymers (MJLCPs) and elastomers (MJLCEs) bearing a novel polynorbornene backbone, onto which the liquid crystalline mesogen is laterally attached by a single covalent bond without spacers.
