Sino-German Symposium on Bio-inspired Materials Science and Engineering was held in Wuhan
Bio-inspired Materials Science
and Engineering–Biofabrication,
Biomaterials and Biomacromolecules, (BMSE-3Bio2014) was held during May 11st-15th
in Wuhan. Sponsored by the China-Germany Science Center, Huazhong University of
Science and Technology and the Munich University of Technology held the
conference together. Prof. Guang Yang, from the College of Life Science and Technology
, HUST and Prof. Cordt Zollfrank from Munich University are the co-chairs of the
conference.
Prof. Qingming Luo, vice
President of HUST attended the meeting and made a speech on
behalf of the school. In his speech he reviewed
the relationship of China and Germany,
especially cooperations between HUST and the MUT; Then, Prof. Lesheng Chen, the
deputy Director of the Center for Science spoke with Sino-German bilingual as an
honored guest, systematically introduced the subsidized scope and focus of the Sino-German
Science Center.
41 outstanding
researchers from more than 30 colleges and universities have been invited to
this seminar, the majority of whom are from China and Germany, a small part
from Canada, Australia, South Korea and the United States. Academician Deyue Yan
from Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Academician Jiang Lei from the Institute
of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences were invited to attend the meeting
and present their reports. 14 scholars are from Germany, including Cordt
Zollfrank from Technical University of Munich, Prof. Thomas Speck from Freiburg
University, Prof. Frank A. Müller
at the University of Jena, etc.
The main issues of this conference were:
micro/nano biomaterials based on biological macromolecules and their
applications in the field of biomedical and engineering, new ideas and new
methods of biomimetic material design, bionic design and manufacture of
micro/nano devices, advanced materials’ controllable release, and advanced
energy materials. During the meeting, high level of academic reports sparked a
heated discussion among participants, as many scholars expressed the will of
cooperation with others.
In order to encourage more youth to actively participate in
scientific research, the seminar collected more than 60 posters mainly from
universities and research institute in Wuhan, which were displayed during the
meeting. In addition, it has arranged visits to Germany Center in HUST, Wuhan National
Optoelectronic Laboratory , Biolakes and so on.
This symposium provided participants with a high level
of communication platform and a valuable opportunity to establish a new
academic cooperation especially international cooperations between Germany and China.
China and Germany’s researching level has been promoted in the field of biomimetic
materials science and engineering.
