Short-term Lectures: The research Progress of natural polymer
Personal Information: Professor Lina Zhang founded the group of Natural Polymer and Polymer Physical Chemistry at Wuhan University in 1993, and has been devoting herself in the laboratory by her strong and effective leadership. They have been mainly working on the fundamental and applied researches of natural polymers and polymer physical chemistry with interdisciplinary areas in the polymer physics, renewable resource and the green chemistry and technology, that is pioneer fields. The research program has focused on cellulose, chitin, soy protein, starch, fungal polysaccharides, and novel eco-friendly functional materials as well as the relationship between structure and properties. In the past ten years, They have been in charge of 20 projects, including a National Economic and Trade Commission project, major grants from National Natural Science Foundation of China, “863” National project, international and oversea cooperation projects, with accumulative total funding amount of 13,000,000 RMB. They have been awarded 6 Scientific and Technological Prizes. They have published 350 papers (more than 310 papers in SCI), and received more than 2000 citations by other researchers. They have obtained 60 patents and proclaimed 2 international patents, and Professor Zhang is the chief editor of 3 books. So far, a total of 44 doctoral (including a foreign candidate), 18 master students, and 1 postdoctoral researcher (Indian) have graduated under Professor Zhang’s supervision. The graduates have been awarded Gold Cup (Jie Cai, Ang Lue) and Silver Cup (Xiaohua Wang, Yangyang Zhang) of Undergraduate Competition Cup on “Philips” Business Plan of China in 2006 and 2007, in China, Committee of 100 Leadership Scholarship 2006-2007 in USA. The group has obtained a set of outstanding achievements and become a famous laboratory in Natural Polymer field in the world. The highlights of her researches are to investigate the influences of the microstructures of the natural polymers and their derivates on the performances, functions and bioactivities by methods of polymer physics and advanced instruments, so as to develop novel “green” materials. They have created a novel technique to dissolve cellulose rapidly in NaOH / urea aqueous solution at low temperature, and proposed new concept and theory for the polymer dissolution. Their researches on natural polymer based materials are available to the application of renewable resources and the protection of environment, and make a good effort in accelerating the development of green chemistry.

Personal Information: Professor Zhichao Han is the Chief Scientist of Joint Laboratory of Polymer Science and Materials, Chinese Academy of Sciences, also the Academic Guide and Deputy Director of the Academic Council in Chinese Academy of Sciences Key Laboratory of Engineering Plastics , and holds the post of Adjunct Professor in some famous research institutions such as Beijin University,Tokyo University and so on . Professor Han has been awarded many international prizes , approved 9 national Patents and 4 US Patents, and also published over 300 scientific papers. He now serves as an editor or a consultant in more than 10 famous polymer magazines .

Personal Information: Hongwei Ma Fellow graduated from Department of Chemistry., Fudan University in 1999, and received Ph.D degree in Department of Biomedical engineering , Duke University of the USA in 2005. From 2005 to 2008, worked in Biomedical engineering , Beijin University; from october of 2008, started to serve as a research fellow in Suzhou Institute of Nano-tech and Nano-bionics (SINANO). In the same time, from 2007 to 2008, employed as a Visiting Fellow by Introduction to Key Laboratory of Microgravity, Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and from 2007 to 2009, by National Key Laboratory of Micro/Nano Fabrication Technology, Institute of Microelectronics, Peking University.
His research interest focuses on: (1) Mechanism and application of surface-initiated polymerization (SIP); (2) the surface modification of materials and its application in Biology Interface ; (3) sensors (SPR and QCM ) and biochips (mainly protein microarray) ; (4) cell behavior on patterned surface.
