1 His works plays an active role in boosting the two universities’ scientific research and education strength and promoting the cooperation between universities. Trough cooperation, the students and teachers could know more about the research exchange and supports in JSPS.

Personal Information:Prof. KAWAGUCHI graduated from department of Applied Chemistry (Faculty of Engineering) in Keio University,1966 and received the Master degree in the graduate school of Keio Univ. in 1968. Employed by Kanebo Co. and worked for it from 1968 to 1969. Received PH.D degree in Keio University in 1973.Promoted to an assistant professor in 1977. Employed as a postdoctoral fellow by The University of Massachusetts form 1978 to 1979. Promoted to a professor in 1989.
His current research interest focuses on Heterogeneous Polymerization, Biomaterials, Polymer Interface and Colloid Chemistry, Functional Polymer Particles, Polymer Gels and Bioactive Materials. He was the fellow in International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science & Engineering, the chief in Society of Fiber Science. Served as the editor committee of some famous journals” Progress in Polymer Science”(1991-1995),”Journal of Biochemistry “(1993-1995),”Chemistry Letters”(1996-1999)and” Journal of Biomaterials Science, Polymer Edition”(1998-present).Obtained Japanese Society of Bio-Materials Award in 2000, Tejima Memorial Award for invention in 2003 and Science & Technology Award in 2005.Complied seven books such as” Polymer Colloids”, published about 175 papers, 40 overviews and authorized 20 items of patents.

Personal Information:Kazuo Umezawa graduated from Polytechnic Institute in Tokyo University in 1969. Received PH.D. degree in Department of Chemistry in Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Umezawa specialized in Fundamental Science and Technology and Chemical Biology. His current research interest focuses on cancer, diabetes mellitus , bioactive metabolite ,cell biology and molecular design. She engaged in the research in Tokyo University, Tokyo University of agriculture and technology and Keio University successively. Received the PH.D.degree in Medical Physiology in University of Oxford(1967)and was employed in Faculty of Science and Technology in 1995. Served as the chief in the research office in Department of Applied Chemistry and the visiting professor in Brown University. Published over 200 papers.

Personal Information:Stephen Z. D. Cheng was born in Shanghai in 1949. He graduated from Department of Mathematics, East China Normal University and came to the United States and became a graduate student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1981, which led to the awarding of his PhD degree in Polymer Chemistry in May 1985. Served as Robert C. Musson Professor in Robert C. Musson Trustees, Dean of the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering, and the chief Editor of Polymer since , Fellow in Amer. Phys. Soc, the research director in Science and Technology Center for Advanced Liquid Crystalline Optical Materials under the National Science Foundation, associate director in the Research Center for Composite Materials Molecules and Microstructures, members of editorial and advisory boards of more than ten international journals, consultant in over 20 international famous companies .He was elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), US in 2008.
Since 1986, Stephen Z. D. Cheng has published over 360 academic articles in research journals, which have important impacts in the physical research of polymers. He was selected to receive The Presidential Young Investigator Award by the White House and the National Science Foundation, the John H. Dillon Medal from the Division of Polymer Physics of the American Physical Society ,the Mettler-Toledo Award from The North American Thermal Analysis Society ,The TA-Instrument Award from The International Confederation for Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry , The Cooperative Research Award from U.S. Patent Association and National Inventors Hall of Fame and also obtained the Certificate of Appreciation from the University of Akron for his outstanding achievement. He was praised for one of academic leaders among the scientists of the novel polymer condensed matter physics. Till now, he has been the major professor of 60 PH.D. About 1/6 students have the teaching job in places all over the world, active in frontier research and teaching fields of polymers.
