Effect of Reaction Condition on the Oxidation of Cumene Catalyzed by Polymer-bound Cobalt Complexes

Cumene (A) was oxidized by molecular oxygen in the
presence of polymer-bound cobalt complexes PSBPY-Co
(1), PSBPY-Co-bipy (2), PSBPY-Co-oxine (3) and
PSBPY-Co-phen (4) (where PSBPY is polystyrene-
bound-2,2'-bipyridine, bipy is 2,2'-bipyridine and phen
is 1,10-phenanthroline), affording dimethylphenyl-
methanol (B) and a-methyl-a-phenylacetaldehyde (C)
in the absence of solvent at 110°C. The reaction rater
anged from 9.11x104 to 5.66x105 mL mol-1min-1
and the selectivity of B and C was 100%.
