ABSTRACT A dual-stimuli-responsive surface with tunable wettability, reversible switching between superhydrophilicity and superhydrophobicity, and responsivity to temperature and pH were investigated. Reversible switching was found over both a narrow temperature range of 10° C and wide pH range of about 10. Dual responsivity was found to be the combined effect of the chemical variation of the surface and the surface roughness. Such surfaces were obtained by fabricating a poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide-co-acrylic acid) copolymer thin film on a flat and a roughly etched silicon substrate. AFM showed that the polymerized Si pillars were composed of irregular microparticles and pores
