Professor Cafer Yavuz from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) was invited by Prof. Mu-Hua Huang to visit the Beijing Institute of Technology and Mu-Hua Huang''s group on November 21-24, 2023.

     During the visit, Professor Yavuz visited the lab of Mu-Hua Huang''s group, and fully affirmed and appreciated the working environment, equipment and management of the lab.

     Many students in Mu-Hua Huang’s group cherished the opportunity of this exchange and made full preparations in advance when they knew that Professor Yavuz was going to visit Beijing Institute of Technology. Six group members, including Dr. Jinxiu Zhou, Ms. Sadia Ahmed, Mr. Murad Khan, Mr. Jing Shi, Mr. Xiaodong He and Mr. Zhicun Wang, presented their research progress and some problems encountered in the project before Professor Cafer Yavuz. He made nice comments and gave helpful suggestions on the project accordingly. During this communication, lots of interesting questions resulted from both sides, and he patiently answered the questions raised by the students. Finally, Professor Yavuz shared his scientific research experience and advice on the scientific research, he encouraged everyone to think independently, do original research, and enjoy the scientific research journey.

      Through this academic exchange activity, the members of Mu-Hua Huang’s group benefited a lot, not only got the chance to talk to big names in the field, expanded their international vision, but also improved their understanding of original scientific research. The students in Mu-Hua Huang''s group are looking forward to making better research results and communicating better with their international and domestic counterparts in the near future.

Biography of Professor Cafer Yavuz

Dr. Cafer Yavuz is a professor of chemistry at KAUST, focusing on nanoporous materials for applications in energy and the environmental sciences. He received his Ph.D. from Rice University of USA in 2008, followed by a postdoc research in UCSB during 2008-2010. He started his independent career as assistant professor at KAIST of Korea in 2010 and promoted to associate professor in 2013, before he moved to KAUST in 2020 to take current position. His group has published more than 130 publications in top journals, including Science, PNAS, Adv. Mater., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Chem. Rev., Acc. Chem. Res., as well as 25 international patents. He also serves on the Editorial Advisory Board Memmers of Chem, ACS Appl. Energy Mater., ACS. Sustainable Chem. Eng. et. al.  He has won many awards such as International Chemistry Olympiad Silver Medal (1997), Forbes magazine''s "Top 5 nanotech breakthroughs (2006)" , The Korean Academy of Science and Technology & S-Oil Best Thesis Advisor Award (2021),  Angewandte Chemie Lecturer, IChO 2022. He was selected as a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry in 2021.
