Thiol-ene click chemistry was employed to form microspheres with sugar groups with high bioactivity and efficient binding of Concanavalin A. Two systems were investigated - a microsphere prepared from ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate, which contained excess vinyl functionalities as a natural result of the preparation process, and the commercially available Wang microsphere, which had to be modified with acryloylchloride to generate pendant vinyl groups.
