[JMCA] Electric Field Induced Structural Color Changes of SiO2@TiO2 Core-Shell Colloidal Suspensions

A new core-shell nano building block of SiO2@TiO2 using high refractive index materials of TiO2 to coat SiO2 colloidal NPs by one step approach was prepared. Through the self-assembly of SiO2@TiO2 core-shell NPs through applied electric field, a suspension of photonic crystals with close packed are formed in propylene carbonate. The reflectance spectrum of the SiO2@TiO2 suspension was investigated under a series of various electric fields. Our results showed that highly adjustable structure color change of the high-refractive index materials of SiO2@TiO2 suspension could be achieved not only by the control of TiO2 shell thickness but also by the change of applied electric fiels.
