[Macromol. Chem. Phys.] Thermoresponsive Poly(2-Oxazoline) Molecular Brushes by Living Ionic Polymerization: Modulation of the Cloud Point by Random and Block Copolymer Pendant Chains
Molecular brushes (MBs) of poly(2-oxazoline)s were prepared by living anionic polymerization of 2-isopropenyl-2-oxazoline to form the backbone and living cationic ring-opening polymerization of 2- n -propyl-2-oxazoline and 2-methyl-2-oxazoline to form random and block copolymers. Their aqueous solutions displayed a distinct thermoresponsive behavior as a function of the side-chain composition an...

[Chem. Commun.] Efficient synthesis of dendrimers via a thiol-yne and esterification process and their potential application in the delivery of platinum anti-cancer drugs
A combination of thiol–yne chemistry and esterification reactions were successfully applied for the preparation of dendrimers with an array of terminal functionalities via the divergent growth strategy; maximizing the number of reactive chain ends whilst minimizing the number of reaction steps required in the process.

[J. POLYM. SCI. PART A-POLYM. CHEM.] Reverse atom transfer radical solution polymerization of methyl methacrylate under pulsed microwave irradiation
The reverse atom transfer radical polymerization (RATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was successfully carried out under pulsed microwave irradiation (PMI) at 69 °C with N,N-dimethylformamide as a solvent and with azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN)/CuBr2/tetramethylethylenediamine as an initiation system. PMI resulted in a significant increase in the polymerization rate of RATRP. A 10.5% conversion...

Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. "A Lotus-Leaf-like Superhydrophobic Surface: A Porous Microsphere/Nanofiber Composite Film Prepared by Electrohydrodynamics" 2004, 43, 4338. (Newsworthy)
A hierarchical micro/nanostructure and low surface energy result in superhydrophobicity in a polystyrene film prepared by the electrohydrodynamics method. The composite film consists of porous microspheres, which contribute to superhydrophobicity by increasing the surface roughness, and interwoven nanofibers, which reinforce the film. A water droplet resides on the film with a contact angle of abo...

113. Electrospinning fabrication of high strength and toughness polyimide nanofiber membranes containing multiwalled carbon nanotubes. D.Chen, T.X.Liu*, X.P.Zhou, W.C.Tjiu, H.Q.Hou*. J. Phys. Chem. B 113(29), 9741-9748, 2009.
Polyimide (PI) and PI nanocomposite fibers containing different amounts of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were produced for the first time by electrospinning. The membranes prepared were composed of highly aligned nanofibers and showed significant enhancement in mechanical properties, compared with the membranes prepared by conventional solution-casting method. Surface-functionalized MWNTs w...

Preparation and SO2 Sorption/Desorption Behavior of an Ionic Liquid Supported onto Porous Silica Particles. Ind. Eng. Chem. Res., 2009, 48 (4), 2142-2148
The ionic liquid 1,1,3,3-tetramethylguanidinium lactate (TMGL) was supported onto porous silica particles via a facile impregnation-vaporization method. The TMGL-supported particles gave high porosity and large specific surface area. The SO2 sorption/desorption properties of the silica-supported TMGL (TMGL-SiO2) were evaluated, and high SO2 sorption capacity and rate were achieved. Its capacity re...

99. Effect of Ultrasonication on Optical Properties and Electronic States of Conjugated Polymer MEH-PPV. M.Wu, G.Z.Yang, M.Wang, W.Z.Wang, M.Wang, T.X.Liu*. Chem. Res. in Chin. Univ. 24(5), 653-657, 2008.
Poly[2-methoxy-5-(2’-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene](MEH-PPV) solutions with different concen- trations were prepared in chloroform for different ultrasonication times. The ultraviolet absorption and photoluminescence(PL) spectra of the MEH-PPV solutions were measured, and the electronic states of the polymer chains under different experimental conditions were studied. The results showed ...

94. Nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of ZnO nanorod filled polyamide 11 composites. M.Wu, G.Z.Yang, M.Wang, W.Z.Wang, W.D.Zhang, J.C.Feng, T.X.Liu*. Mater. Chem. Phys. 109(2-3), 547-555, 2008.
Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods filled polyamide 11 (PA11) composites have been successfully prepared by melt-blending. Nonisothermal melt crystallization kinetics of PA11 and its nanocomposites is investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) under different cooling rates. With increasing the content of ZnO nanorods, the crystallization rate of PA11 decreases. The nonisothermal crystalliza...
