Nanofiberspossessgreatpotentialinrealizingopticallytransparentcompositeswithimprovedmechanicalperformancewithoutcompromisingtransparency.Whilehavingreinforcingnanofiberswithdiametersthinnerthan400nm(thelowerendofthevisiblelightspectrum)iscriticalinprinciple,poordistributionofthesenanofiberswithinthePMMAmatrixwouldalsoaffectthetransparencyoftheresultantcomposite.Anewmethodbasedonself-blendingco-electrospinningwasproposedtoprepareelectrospunmeshesofPA-6nanofiberswell-mingledwithPMMAfibers,fromwhichcompositefilmsand/orpanelswithvariedmassfractionsofPA-6nanofiberscanbefabricatedthroughhot-presstechnique.PreliminarymechanicalevaluationintermsoftensilepropertiesofthePA-6/PMMAcompositewasfoundtoberemarkablyimprovedwithoutapparentinfluenceonitstransparencyifthePA-6loadingfractionwaslowerthan5%.
