Highlights

?A novel PFC system based on WO3 and P-BiVO4/CQDs was constructed.

?Superior Pmax and Cr(VI) reduction were simultaneously realized in the PFC.

?Voc, Jsc and Pmax were respectively 0.83 V, 0.42 mA·cm?2 and 0.1 mW·cm?2.

?The addition of CQDs remarkably hampered the recombination of charge carriers.

?The optimized PFC displayed superior stability and practicability.
